How She Help...
Ella Flagg Young's main focus was to help both teachers and students become successful individuals which would contribute to a growing and changing society. She managed to lead the Chicago School systems through a change in which industrialization dominated the economy; a change in where the arrival of diverse cultures/immigrants slowly learned to find their place within society. She created the idea of developing variety of school governing structures within the schooling system to ensure that teachers and administrators equally discuss curriculum. The formation of study groups were also important to Ella in where administrators and teachers proposed different programs for students entering school, and added Deans to many schools to ensure that struggling students are guided down the path of success.
Mrs. Young also helped develop and added a variety of Sex Education and Hygiene programs to help preserve the health of her students. By granting teachers and students the freedom and power to develop and carry out their own ideas, educators and students would be able to observe, develop and tap into their natural intelligence, creativity and uniqueness. Ella went on to contended that this type of freedom would attract the most talented and qualified educators.
Ella Flagg Young also helped make a difference in the Women Suffrage Movement. With the encouragement of many women, especially teacher, Ella was placed into a leadership position in where she structured time and opportunities to help women develop their own identities in society and find equality within society.
